Experimental subdiffraction source discrimination enabled by spatial demultiplexing and single-photon detectors
The authors experimentally tested a universal method for discriminating between two incoherent sources, simulating an exoplanet and a star, using spatial mode demultiplexing (SPADE) and single-photon detectors. They found that SPADE outperforms direct imaging when crosstalk is below a threshold of 0.1, requiring significantly fewer photons to achieve the same error rate compared to direct imaging.
