Galaxy Clustering Can Reveal Host-Galaxy Properties of Binary Black Hole Mergers

The study uses galaxy clustering around gravitational-wave events to infer which type of host galaxy a binary black hole (BBH) merger belongs to, even when hosts are unknown. By analyzing how neighboring galaxies cluster statistically based on their host type, the framework provides constraints on the fraction of mergers hosted by different galaxy populations without needing assumptions about formation times.
