Universal Random Matrix Behavior of a Fermionic Quantum Gas
Researchers used quantum gas microscopy to study a strongly interacting two-component Fermi gas. They found that despite strong interactions, the spatial organization follows Random Matrix Theory (RMT) predictions from Wishart-Laguerre matrices, which describe an ideal Fermi gas. This validates RMT's use for strongly correlated quantum systems and confirms the Fermi-sphere point process experimentally.
