Atypical White Dwarfs in Open Clusters
The study examined atypical white dwarfs (WDs) in open clusters to understand their formation history, especially for magnetic and non-hydrogen-dominated types. While initial mass relations and basic spatial differences compared to the field were similar, clusters showed a significant deficit of non-DA WDs between 0.8 and 1.0 solar masses. This suggests that massive merger remnants are underrepresented in young clusters because they require longer evolutionary timescales to form.
