Universal orbital and magnetic structures in infinite-layer nickelates
Researchers used RIXS to compare rare-earth infinite-layer nickelates (LaNiO2, PrNiO2, NdNiO2) to find that their orbital configurations are fundamentally similar despite minor hybridization differences. They confirmed a universal magnetic structure with comparable spin exchange couplings across all three compounds. Notably, charge order was only observed in LaNiO2, suggesting sample-specific behavior in this phenomenon.
