Resolving the origin of the unidentified TeV source HESS J1626-490 as a relic of the ancient cosmic-ray factory SNR G335.2+0.1

The study investigated whether HESS J1626-490 originates from SNR G335.2+0.1 by testing a cosmic-ray escape scenario. Analysis of multi-wavelength data, including GeV gamma rays, showed an extended emission overlapping the SNR and HESS source regions. The preferred hadronic model suggests protons were accelerated to over 100 TeV in the past.
