Probing cold gas and dust in quiescent galaxies across cosmic time

The ALMA2040 facility is essential for studying cold interstellar medium (ISM) and dust content in quiescent galaxies across cosmic time to understand how and when galaxies stop forming stars. Current measurements show that a significant amount of cold gas remains even after star formation ceases, requiring new observations to map this reservoir, constrain dust properties, and pinpoint the mechanisms driving galaxy quenching.
