Direct measures of black hole masses through cosmic time

The paper proposes using a transformational facility like ALMA2040 to directly measure supermassive black hole (SMBH) masses by observing cold gas kinematics across cosmic time, from local galaxies up to high redshift. This new capability overcomes limitations of current methods, allowing for more accurate mass estimates and providing crucial constraints on SMBH growth and evolution.
