Frustration induced dimensional reduction and coexistence of long and short-range magnetic order in NdCl 3

The study investigated how frustration in NdCl3 leads to dimensional reduction and a coexistence of magnetic orders. Experiments showed two magnetic transitions, with entropy release above the first transition ($T_{N1}$). Neutron scattering confirmed quasi-one-dimensional short-range order above $T_{N1}$, while the persistence of diffuse scattering between $T_{N2}$ and $T_{N1}$ indicated coexisting short and long-range order. This suggests frustration drives magnetic behavior in this material.
