The role of major mergers in triggering super-Eddington accretion

The study investigated whether a major merger between low-mass halos triggers sustained super-Eddington accretion onto black holes. Simulations showed that while mergers drive gas inflows, sustained super-Eddington growth requires completely switching off black hole feedback. Kinetic feedback is key; when included, it rapidly quenches the initial burst of super-Eddington accretion and strongly suppresses long-term BH mass growth.
