Mass quench in interacting finite-size quantum field system
This study investigates how a quantum scalar field changes after being suddenly given a different mass (a mass quench) in a small, finite system. Using advanced quantum field theory methods, researchers found that at exactly half the system's size, the effective mass of the particles experiences a significant disturbance. This effect is caused by fluctuations interfering with each other due to how the system's boundaries are set up.
