Density waves in low-pressure bilayer nickelates

Researchers investigated density wave transitions in La3Ni2O7 using Hartree–Fock calculations to understand high-temperature superconductivity precursors. They found that a double-stripe spin-density wave emerges first, followed by a charge-density wave at lower temperatures. This intertwined spin and charge order, characterized by distinct orbital contributions, is sensitive to pressure and crystal structure.
