Insights on back marking for the automated identification of animals
This study analyzed a machine learning model trained to identify pigs using unique back marks. The research found that effective mark design must account for real-world challenges like motion blur, different viewing angles, and occlusions caused by animal behavior. Specific designs were recommended to ensure the marks remain unambiguous under these difficult conditions.
