Impact of etches on thin-film single-crystal niobium resonators

This study tested how different acid cleaning treatments affect single-crystal niobium thin films used for superconducting circuits. Etching procedures significantly changed electrical properties like resistivity and quality factor, correlating these changes with surface crystallites that appear to be hydrocarbons. The results suggest hydrogen incorporation is occurring during HF acid treatments, impacting the material's superconducting performance.
