The effect of limb kinematics on the speed of a legged robot on granular media
Researchers systematically studied how a small legged robot, SandBot, moves across granular media by changing its gait parameters. They found that optimal speed is achieved within a very narrow range of these parameters. High performance occurs when the robot minimizes body acceleration and limb interference while effectively utilizing the solidification features of the sand.
