Evidence for inefficient dust production in a massive, metal-rich galaxy at z=7.13 uncovered by JWST and ALMA

Joint JWST and ALMA observations of A1689-zD1 at z=7.13 found that despite having significant dust, its dust-to-gas and dust-to-metal ratios are remarkably low. This suggests that the mechanisms producing or destroying dust in the early Universe operate very differently than in the local universe, pointing to a potential change in early galaxy composition.
