Unveiling the Baryon Cycle Through Cosmic Time

ALMA2040 proposes a major upgrade to molecular gas surveys by combining a tenfold sensitivity boost with >512 GHz frequency coverage. This allows for tiered mapping—an ultra-deep field, a wide mosaic, and thousands of independent sightlines—to map the entire baryon cycle across cosmic time. The goal is to connect molecular gas reservoirs to star formation and feedback processes.
