Isolated or Dynamical? Tracing Black Hole Binary Formation through the Population of Gravitational-Wave Sources
The study uses a simulation code to model how binary black holes form through isolated evolution versus dynamical interactions in star clusters. The results show that while isolated binaries dominate low-mass mergers, dynamical interactions are crucial for forming higher-mass black holes and shaping the mass ratio distribution, especially in metal-poor environments.
