Fragile single-cone Dirac quantum walks in two dimensions

The study investigates two-dimensional Dirac quantum walks based on local, two-band models. It found these walks are fundamentally more fragile than their one-dimensional counterparts because protecting symmetries become non-symmorphic and are easily broken by spatial variations. This fragility prevents the coexistence of a single Dirac cone with traditional topological protection in 2D systems.
