ALMA observations towards M83 reveal N2H+ tracing dense gas
Researchers used ALMA to study N2H+ and HCN in M83 to see if N2H+ better traces dense gas than HCN. They found a super-linear relationship between their intensities, suggesting molecular clouds are complex combinations of Galactic clouds. Modeling showed N2H+ is highly sensitive to the power-law tail in the column density distribution.
