Atomic thermometry in optical lattice clocks: model discrepancies and their impact on lattice light shifts
This work investigates atomic temperature measurement in an ytterbium optical lattice clock using sideband and Doppler spectroscopy across various trapping conditions. It compares temperature estimates from harmonic oscillator and Born-Oppenheimer models, showing discrepancies that can affect lattice shift evaluations. The study demonstrates that clock-line-mediated Sisyphus cooling significantly reduces atomic temperatures, but residual model differences persist, impacting the accuracy of high-precision optical clocks.
