Active tissue mechanics drives a diversity of collective flows in uniaxially compressed 3D spheroids

The study investigates how compression affects cell motion and rotation in 3D tissue spheroids using a minimal active vertex model. It found that compression enhances transverse motion in solid-like spheroids but slows fluid-like ones at high activity. Strong alignment induces coherent rotation in solids, unlike fluids, linking these responses to contact dynamics and local rearrangement costs.
