Toward a Multimodal Foundation Model for Plasma State Reconstruction
Researchers developed a single 5.5M-parameter 3D U-Net to reconstruct magnetic fields and electron density from incomplete plasma observations during magnetic reconnection simulations. The model uses masked inputs and cross-modal learning to achieve remarkable performance, showing that sparse sensing can be effectively handled by coupling magnetic and density information.
