Are High-EW LAEs good analogs for the earliest galaxies? A study on the ionizing conditions and gas properties of LAEs at $2 z 7

The study tested if high-equivalent-width Lyman-$\alpha$ emitters (LAEs) are analogs to metal-poor galaxies driving cosmic reionization. Using 88 LAEs at $2 \lesssim z\lesssim 7$, researchers found they exhibit low metallicities and intense emission, supporting their role as early systems. While Ly$\alpha$ EW alone isn't a perfect indicator, combining it with stellar mass suggests high-EW LAEs are preferentially less chemically evolved than typical galaxies of the same mass.
