The progenitor galaxies of the intracluster light
The study analyzed 127 galaxy clusters to compare their intracluster light (ICL) progenitors with those of their brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs). Findings show ICL assembly involves many intermediate-mass progenitors, while BCGs grow from a few massive ones. Progenitor properties are highly dependent on the structure's formation history.
