Planet formation on solar system scales

ALMA2040, a next-generation sub(mm) interferometer, aims to detect and kinematically characterize Jupiter-like planets orbiting Sun-like stars within 150 pc. It will probe how gas giants carve gaps, accrete material, and form satellites by observing circumplanetary emission and planet-driven velocity fields in their natal discs.
