Expanding quantum magnetic field
The study develops a quantum theory for a long-range magnetic field created by an external current that is suddenly switched on and held constant. This non-equilibrium state shows a propagating shockwave separating regions where the field is formed from those causally disconnected. Key results show that while the expanding field locally resembles the static one behind the shockwave, their total energy and photon numbers are fundamentally different.
