A Modular Event-Driven Software Architecture for Open-Source Industrial IoT Edge Gateways
This work developed a modular, event-driven software architecture for open-source IIoT edge gateways to bridge legacy industrial machinery with modern cloud systems. The system uses a containerized web stack to translate serial protocols like Modbus into MQTT for cloud platforms like AWS IoT. A key feature is a localized event engine that processes logic at the edge, ensuring fast, deterministic responses without relying on slow network communication.
