Evolutionary game with stochastic payoffs in a finite island model
The study examines a two-player game in a population split into demes with random payoffs. It uses diffusion approximation to show that as the number of demes increases, the discrete evolutionary dynamics converge to a continuous-time process. The paper finds that cooperation fixation probability is enhanced when defection's payoff variability is higher than cooperation's.
