From the Light Quantum to the Photon: The Evolution of a Physical Concept
This work traces how Einstein's theory of radiation evolved from a heuristic idea to a physical necessity for a light quantum. Spontaneous emission demonstrated that such a quantum must physically exist, even though the full quantum description of light remained unclear at the time. The concept eventually became known as the photon through various theoretical shifts.
