Combining Qualitative and Computational Approaches for Literary Analysis of Finnish Novels
The study combined qualitative literary analysis with computational emotion analysis to explore Finnish classics. Researchers developed a method using word embeddings and a curated lexicon to map emotional spaces across 975 novels. The results showed that while quantitative data supports traditional interpretations, human nuance remains essential for deep narrative understanding.
