Experimental observation of conformal field theory spectra

Researchers used a quantum simulator with a Rydberg chain to observe energy excitation spectra at quantum phase transitions described by Ising and tricritical Ising conformal field theories (CFTs). They developed modulation spectroscopy to resolve these finite-size spectra, successfully recovering universal energy ratios predicted by the underlying CFTs. This demonstrates a powerful new tool for studying general quantum phase transitions.
