Ultrasmall (3,0) carbon nanotube: a superconducting unit with strong electron-phonon coupling

Researchers studied the electronic structure and electron-phonon coupling (EPC) of an ultrasmall (3,0) carbon nanotube under ambient pressure. They found that this pristine tube is a two-gap superconductor with a high transition temperature of about 33 K. Doping the tube with holes reduces its superconductivity, suggesting that strong phonon modes with high EPC are crucial for achieving superconductivity in these small nanotubes.
