Emergent topological structure in spontaneous brain-organoid activity
Researchers used persistent homology to analyze spontaneous electrical activity from human and mouse brain organoids. They found that this method successfully detects structured loop topology in the neural data, even at relatively small unit counts, revealing a complex underlying organization that traditional measures miss.
