Resolving the Assembly of Disk Galaxies from the Epoch of Reionisation to Cosmic Noon

ALMA2040 will transform galaxy evolution studies by providing resolved observations of cold gas tracers like CO, [C I], and [C II] from z=1 to 6. This next-generation facility aims to resolve the dynamics and structure of cold gas in low-mass galaxies, testing theories on how disks form, how angular momentum is transported, and constraining dark matter models during the peak epoch of galaxy assembly.
