Expert-level detection of low-voltage intervals in EEG as a robust biomarker of neonatal encephalopathy

The study introduced Low-Voltage Intervals (LVIs), defined by low amplitude and duration, as an alternative to burst-interburst intervals for detecting brain dysfunction in neonates. A ConvNeXt AI model achieved expert-level agreement with human readers. LVIs showed strong associations with EEG background grades, clinical Hypoxic-Ischaemic Encephalopathy (HIE) severity, and seizure prediction.
