Time-reversible timestepping in many-body planetary systems

This work develops MTR, an 'almost' exactly time-reversible direct N-body integrator for planetary systems. Unlike standard methods, MTR assigns individual, evolving timesteps to pairs of planets on the fly. Testing shows no energy drift and up to two orders of magnitude speedup compared to Hermite mode simulations.
