Frustration-induced multiferroicity in hauerite MnS2
Researchers investigated how magnetic frustration in hauerite MnS2 leads to ferroelectric properties. They found that this simple material exhibits ferroelectricity up to 360 µC/m2 in its antiferromagnetic state, classifying it as a type-II multiferroic driven by local electronic moments on S2 dimers. This establishes a new pathway for designing functional multiferroic materials.
