Radio streaks in the Lighthouse Nebula discovered with MeerKAT -- Particles escaping from the tail and illuminating the ambient magnetic field

Researchers used MeerKAT radio observations to study particle escape from a pulsar wind nebula called Lighthouse Nebula. They found new transverse radio streaks extending from the pulsar's tail, interpreting these as energetic leptons escaping into the surrounding interstellar medium due to dynamical instabilities. This suggests most particles are released within a few parsecs, illuminating an ambient magnetic field with coherence lengths of several parsecs.
