Observation and Control of Spontaneous Magnon Emission from Spin Ensembles in 2D Hexagonal Boron Nitride

Researchers observed and controlled spontaneous magnon emission from boron-vacancy centers in 2D hexagonal boron nitride when coupled to a YIG magnetic bath at near zero temperature. They found an unconventional coupling channel where defects emit magnons into the quantum vacuum, which is enhanced by defect density and can be tuned using external magnetic fields.
