Passive and active field theories for disease spreading

The SIR-DDFT model combines epidemiology with soft matter physics to explicitly model social distancing effects on disease spreading. By incorporating repulsive interactions representing isolation and extending it with features like vaccination, mutations, and noise, researchers investigated how non-reciprocal interactions influence epidemic dynamics in a simplified phase field crystal framework.
