Camera-Noise Residuals for Face-Swap Detection: Redundant, Not Complementary, and Why
The study tested fusing a camera-noise fingerprint with an RGB appearance backbone for deepfake detection. It found that this fusion does not improve performance over using RGB alone, and the noise residual is redundant with RGB rather than complementary. The failure of the residual branch was traced to InstanceNorm destroying crucial statistical information.
