Probing Direct Contributions of Galaxies and AGN to Cosmic Reionization in a Quasar Field J0226+0302 with JWST NIRCam and NIRSpec
The study used JWST observations of a quasar field to measure how star-forming galaxies and Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) contribute to cosmic reionization. It found that these luminous sources significantly increase the local ionizing background, evidenced by higher transmission in the intergalactic medium around them, consistent with simulations.
