Diversity in Lyman Continuum Escape at z about0.3 Revealed by WISE Infrared Observations
The study investigated strong Lyman continuum (LyC) radiation escape in local star-forming galaxies at z~0.3, comparing those detected in infrared (IR) to those not detected. Findings show that LyC escape is not limited to galaxies with the most extreme UV properties and can coexist with substantial IR emission. Different physical mechanisms drive this escape depending on whether a galaxy is IR-detected or not, revealing diverse pathways for ionizing radiation leakage.
