Galactic tides and the outer density profile of the Sculptor and Ursa Minor dwarf spheroidals

The study tested if extended stellar density profiles in Sculptor and Ursa Minor dwarf spheroidals were caused by Galactic tidal forces using N-body simulations. The results show that tidal forces are insufficient to explain these features; instead, the extended stars are likely due to innate characteristics like multiple stellar populations or past merger events.
