Inflow-driven galaxy evolution - II: A hierarchy in the scaling relations of star-forming galaxies
The study models gas flows regulating galaxy evolution using ideal and cosmological models to determine a hierarchy among three core scaling relations: the SFMS, gas-to-stellar mass relation, and MZR. It finds that the SFMS is set by halo formation time, while the other relations depend on gas flow dynamics between inflow-driven and equilibrium states. This framework links these observables to the baryon cycle.
