Quantum networking with advances in fiber technology
The study compares hollow-core fibers (HCF) with conventional silica single-mode fibers (SMFs) in quantum repeater networks. HCF significantly outperforms SMF, boosting secret-key rates by up to ten times under memory-native transmission and allowing for larger optimal repeater spacing. This suggests HCF expands the practical design space for terrestrial quantum networks.
