Studying the absorption signatures of H I Lyman-alpha in the warm-hot circumgalactic medium with TNG50
The study used cosmological simulations to investigate H I absorption signatures from warm-hot gas in the circumgalactic medium (CGM) around Milky Way-like galaxies. It identified a new absorber class called Coronal Broad Lyman-alpha Absorbers (CBLAs), which trace warm-hot gas and set a column density floor for H I optical depth in this environment.
