Molecule-by-molecule nanoresolved picosecond Purcell-enhanced emission at room-temperature in hollow plasmonic nanocone metamaterials

Researchers used a 3D array of hollow gold nanocones to precisely measure how they change light emission from individual molecules at room temperature. They found that placing a molecule in specific spots on these cones can enhance its fluorescence lifetime by over two orders of magnitude, reaching picosecond scales. This allows for nanometer-scale mapping of the electromagnetic field around single emitters.
