Identification of ultra-high-energy neutrinos in vertical air showers with surface detectors
The study tested surface detector arrays for ultra-high-energy neutrinos using vertical air showers with zenith angles less than 60 degrees, an unexplored region. The key finding is that the electromagnetic component at ground level provides a genuine way to distinguish neutrino-induced showers from cosmic rays. This proves that vertical detection channels are feasible, expanding the search area for UHE neutrinos.
